Unit 484
December 11 Minutes
Agnes
Corns, Bob Fox, Audrey Green, Addie Greene, Jerry Kenefick, Ellie
Mitchell, and Kemble Yates attended. Becca Ostrom was absent.
The
November 13 minutes were accepted as amended.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The unit
is down a little over $700 from last year, Kemble said. Phone
directories cost $181.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Bob
purchased a 100-cup coffee pot for $127.
OLD
BUSINESS
Jerry has
22 people signed up for Easybridge!, which will start at 9:30 a.m.
Monday, January 26, at the Masonic Lodge. The 15-week session will
cost $75. Students will begin receiving master points at the fifth
class. He will have a flyer out soon.
Bob’s
Beyond Basic/Intermediate class will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, January
5, at the Masonic Lodge. When Jerry’s class is running concurrently,
Bob’s class will be in the other room at the lodge. Beyond Basic
will cost $60 for 10 sessions.
Bernadine
Lacy’s Advanced Bridge will begin at the end of January and run the
second and fourth Thursdays. She will cover declarer play, defense,
and new conventions. Cost will be $100. Her Beginning Big Club
class, also costing $100, will run Fridays from 9:30 to 11:15
beginning January 30. There will be no class February 20, during the
Portland Regional.
NEW
BUSINESS
It was
suggested that new players be given a list of the games from the
directory.
Audrey,
who’s going off the board, said the unit must appoint someone to be
in charge of the directory. She has a list of 20 people, who don’t
play regularly, who want to be called for a bridge roundup. Someone
must make those calls.
Jerry will
announce at tonight’s game that Gee Gee Walker and Bob Valine have
made Silver Life Master. They will be honored, along with other
milestone players, sometime during the first quarter.
DISTRICT
REPORT
Bernadine
asked the unit to stipulate that the Thursday night game have a
non-playing director. She said that was one of the criteria when she
turned the game over to the unit in January. I checked the minutes
for all 11 meetings this year and could not find such a stipulation.
Bernadine said she made the agreement with Bob, who doesn’t recall
it. The issue at the moment is moot because the unit cancelled the
game last month. Bernadine doesn’t want it back. Jerry asked that
the minutes show the unit games are the unit board’s responsibility
and decisions about these games will be made by the board.
She will
list all classes in her Trumpet column and asked Jerry and Bob to
give her times, dates, and locations.
Bernadine
explained the revoke rule revision, which says that the offending
side never will be penalized two tricks unless they take the
revoking trick and a subsequent trick. However, the director may
restore equity.
Because of
computer problems, Gee Gee is just now putting up the results of the
Halloween game. Subsequent games will be entered manually.
The next
meeting will be January 8 at the Masonic Lodge.
Respectfully submitted,
Addie
Greene, secretary
