Agnes Corns, Bob Fox, Audrey Green, Addie
Greene, Jerry Kenefick, Ellie Mitchell, Becca Ostrom, and Kemble
Yates attended.
The September 15 minutes were accepted. Bob said he will write a
reinstatement letter taking Sallie Smith off probation.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The unit’s balance is $14,491.27. Ellie said she would donate the
difference between sectional contributions and expenses for
hospitality. Kemble said the sectional earned a little over $400.
The October 2 game was canceled because there were fewer than three
tables. Kemble said we need to discuss this issue, which is not so
much financial as whether or not the Thursday evening game can
survive. As it is, the game is not drawing more than than five
tables, which means the unit is consistently operating it at a loss.
The treasurer’s report was approved.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Bob suggested honoring life master milestones, but not
retroactively. Bernandine Lacy, a new diamond life master, and
Shirley Stoneberger, a new life master, will be honored at the
October 13 game. Kemble suggested honoring these milestones either
monthly or quarterly. Audrey moved, and I seconded, to honor life
master milestones quarterly but to announce them immediately after
they occur. The motion carried. Jerry volunteered to scan each
month’s Bridge Bulletin and to make the announcements.
I will forward each month’s minutes, following approval, to Gee Gee
Walker to post on the Web site to ensure that all players have
access to unit business.
Jerry suggested using this protocol: Any unit member can make a
suggestion about unit business to a board member, who will pass it
to the president. Bob’s preference is to communicate by phone rather
than by email.
OLD BUSINESS
I will email Abbie Bouman’s photos to Leah McKechnie for the
Memorial Game November 2. Ellie will honor Reva Nichols. We will ask
Abdullah El Attrash to talk about Ken Blount and Pat Lockheed or Art
Birnbaum to talk about Abbie. I must get her birth year from a
family member.
NEW BUSINESS
Jerry suggested that a director play if a player comes in alone
(except for the unit game). He will ask Bernadine whether or not
she, as a director, will play and appeal for support for the
Thursday game.
Audrey made 80 phone calls to update the roster, which will be out
October 13. Twenty people who never play said they would like to be
called for a game. We will schedule this “bridge roundup” either
late in the year or early next year. Discussion will be tabled until
the November meeting.
Agnes, Audrey, Jerry, and Kemble are in the last year of their board
terms. Bob, I, Ellie, and Becca will continue, and Jerry has pledged
to stay on for a third year. Jackie Donnelly, Shirley, and Gee Gee
have agreed to join the board.
Jerry will teach a 15-week Easy Bridge course beginning Monday,
January 26, 8:45-11:15 at the Masonic Temple. It will be $75 plus
$13 for the text. It will appear in the RCC calendar, and ACBL will
pay 75% of the cost of an ad in the Mail-Tribune.
It is up to the board to be aware of North American Pairs and Grand
National Teams schedules, to remind the clubs, and to subsidize
them, Bob said.
The next meeting will be November 13 at the Masonic Lodge.
Respectfully submitted,
Addie Greene, secretary
